south swells have been on fire lately…the neutral
el niño tends to have an active southern hemisphere
where the jet stream rides higher off the antarctic…
ideal for sending south swells to so. cal. …
beach launching in north santa monica bay in the
winter time is a breeze…while oxnard ‘n’ ventura
are triple overhead…the north bay has ankle slappers…
but in the summer…it’s a whole different ball game…
since it faces south east…it picks up everything from
the south…even south east hurricane off baja pound
these beaches…
luckily…retirement has made it possible to avoid these
thumpin’ waves…where in the past i had to go “hell or
high water” on my time off of work…now…i can slip
in between these thumpin waves…
“wave cast” had a French Polynesian swell fading…
drove down ‘n’ wot did i find??? shorter period chest
high waves with relentless pounding surf…
”rooster bite!”…turned around ‘n’ went home…
took a chance the next day…eureka!!! lulls in the
surf…paddle to the giggle weeds…no bait???
oh well…paddled to the outer reefs…started casting
‘n’ bouncing ol’ reliable…the scampi…
as i paddled 50 yrds up the reef my sabiki gets
slammed…pull up two green backs…which i haven’t
found in sometime…pinned one on a bait rig ‘n’
dead stick’um…
after losing my two scampi’s…i sent the back hooked
green back down to the bottom ‘n’ started to pack it up
to go home…as i drifted off the reef…wammo!!!
the green back gets clobbered!!! luckily…i hadn’t put
my gaff ‘n’ game clip away yet!!! there is a god!!!
