between 2000 and 2015…peeking in 2008…web sites
popped up in 3 of the 5 counties starting in the mid 1990’s…
san diego county had “kayak 4 fish ‘n’ “big waters edge”…
orange county had “kayak mafia” and L.A. county had
“coastal kayak fishing” “kayaksportfishing” ‘n’ “baytubers”…
ventura county ‘n’ santa barbara county kept their fishing
“close to the vest” with no kayak fishing web sites…
2008 was a turning point when L.A. yakkers seeing all the
amazing catches on “big waters edge” started to flood down
to la jolla…which caused all the san diego local greats like
“holy mackerel” “mad scientist” etc. to stop posting on the
web site…
then…people started to argue whether to post “bites” on these
web sites or not…curiously…when someone posted a bite
going off in L.A. on “big waters edge” an a few people
protested…lamb of “big waters edge” suspended them for trying
to “police” posts on the site…
oddly…when a user named “klutz” pointed out one of lambs
halibut bites outside of mission bay…lamb removed “klutz”
post exposing his bite??? go figure…
so…the beginning of the end came in 2015…when people realized
the ramifications of exposing fishing bites to the masses…now…
small groups ‘n’ friends just post in private…on facebook…
instagram etc. …
i can sympathize…for i have seen a few bites exposed on these web sites
where all 5 counties showed up with 100 kayakers ‘n’ 100 private boaters…
wot a circus…
for me…i just enjoyed reading peoples fishing adventures…i didn't need
a fishing report with a neon sign of "where 'n' when"...just reading
adventures was a lot better than people arguing over whether to post
reports of fishing bites or not…
now…i hardly ever see yakkers out in the water anymore…the days
of 20 guys out every week are over…
now... i lazily fish…catching halibut here ‘n’ there…lovin’ the beauty
of nature…enjoying a leisurely paddle in the cool crisp air…
so...i will continue to post my fishing adventures here on baytubers
for as long as it stays alive...cheers!!!
